The possible sale of Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey to Manchester United this summer could net the player’s former club York City a huge windfall of up to £1 million.
The 21-year-old York-born midfielder, who has now been converted to a centre-back, has excelled in the Sky Bet Championship with The Canaries this season following an impressive loan spell with third tier club Shrewsbury Town last term.
Godfrey has made 34 appearances for Norwich City in all competitions this season while he has contributed four goals as Norfolk outfit continue to chase a return to the English Premier League after a three-year absence.
The youngster’s hugely impressive form has seen him come under the radar of other clubs and it is believed that Godfrey could be a transfer target of English Premier League giants Manchester United as reported by The72.
Norwich City are thought to value Godfrey at around £10 million. The Canaries signed the player from former English Football League club York City in January 2016 and it is understood that The Minstermen would be entitled to around 10% of any sale meaning that they could potentially pick up a £1 million boost this summer.
That sell-on fee would be a welcome bonus for York City with the club having struggled to make an impact in National League North this season. The Minstermen have ambitions to return to the English Football League while they are scheduled to move into a new all-seater stadium at Monks Cross later this year.
