Former Derby County opens up about Pride Park exit last summer

Cameron Jerome has said he has “no hard feelings” with Derby County over his exit last summer.

The 32-year-old was told he could leave the club and moved on to join Turkish side Göztepe on a two-year deal.

Jerome, formerly of Birmingham City, Stoke City and Norwich City, has played 23 games in all competitions for the Turkish Süper Lig this season and has chipped in with four goals.

He has said he was not part of Frank Lampard’s plans at Derby this season, as per a report by Derbyshire Live: I was looking forward to working with Lampard but he changed his mind on me. It was a bit of a surprise, but no hard feelings at all

I was stuck there with a year left on my contract. couldn’t go to Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United or West Brom and then they asked if I would move to certain clubs. Those moves were not going to benefit me and I felt I should be at Derby competing for a place.”

Jerome said how his move to Turkey came about: “My agent Eric Walters told me there was an opportunity in Turkey – I’ve always wanted to play abroad and at my age the chance might not come again.”

Who knows, maybe one day Jerome could return to the Championship and prove Lampard wrong. For now he will continue to enjoy his spell with Göztepe for another season at least.
