Norwich City’s squad will share a huge £10m promotion bonus if they secure their return to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s players are closing in on promotion from the Championship and are in line for the cash jackpot, which was agreed before the start of the season.

The sum will be split between the first-team players, dependent on appearances, and Norwich could guarantee promotion if they beat Stoke City on Easter Monday.

Norwich need only five more points after the dramatic 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, but can be promoted at the bet365 Stadium if they win and rivals Sheffield United or Leeds fail to pick up three points in their games.

It is understood the bonus was agreed with the club’s board as a massive incentive to mount a promotion campaign. Most Championship clubs offer a promotion bonus to their players, but Norwich’s is understood to be one of the largest in the league this season.

Norwich’s sporting director Stuart Webber has revealed that the club are planning sensibly for the top flight, following relegation in 2016.

“We have got to ignore all the noise and the experts telling us how much we have to spend – we have to look at the model of Fulham, who spent £100m and unfortunately for them it’s not gone great,” he said.

“Of course we want to stay there but we have to prudent enough that if we do get relegated we’ll still be strong enough for the next five years. We can’t commit to any spending that will kill the club.

“If you’re fortunate enough to be in the Premier League, what it does to your finances is so big that there’s no excuse not to be financially stable.”
