Charlton Athletic pull out of race for Premier League striker

Charlton Athletic boss Gary Bowyer has ruled out a move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The 20-year-old was a target for the Championship side but they have admitted defeat in their pursuit of him, according to a report by London News Online.

The highly-rated youngster is currently with Arsenal’s senior side in America and scored for the Gunners against Bayern Munich in a friendly earlier this week. He has also been linked with Bristol City in this transfer window.

Bowyer has said, as per London News Online: “It is looking difficult. He is in the first-team and doing well in the first-team. I can’t see them letting him out on loan.”

He started his career at Chelsea but was released in 2015 so joined their London rivals Arsenal. He has since risen through the youth ranks at the Emirates Stadium and has also represented England at U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels so far.

Nketiah made his debut for the Gunners’ senior side in September 2017 when he came on as an 89th substitute in a Europa League game against BATE Borisov.

He then made his next appearance in a League Cup tie against Norwich City a month later and scored twice to send Arsenal into the next round. He has since played in 18 more games for the Gunners.

It appears he will be making more appearances in the Premier League next season with Charlton accepting defeat in signing him.
