Legendary head coach Bill Belichick has taken a swipe at former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for his association with Birmingham City and following their relegation to League One.

Speaking at the Netflix roast of Tom Brady, Belichick – one of the greatest coaches in NFL history – made reference to Blues’ ignominious descent down English football’s pyramid.

Brady, a minority shareholder and long-time associate of chairman Tom Wagner, was not at St Andrew’s @Knighthead Park on Saturday where Blues beat Norwich City 1-0 but were still demoted as result elsewhere in the Championship went against them and they were condemned to the third tier for the first time since 1995.

However, that didn’t stop Belichick from taking a swipe at this former signal-caller, saying: “I see your soccer team Birmingham City got knocked down to another tier in the English Football League.

“For those not familiar with English football and the intricacies of the obscure relegation system, just let me say, I’ll put it in English for you – they suck. Not so easy running a team is it Tom?”

Brady’s off mic response was ‘Want to coach them?’.

Brady was announced as an investor and chairman of the club’s advisory board last summer. He has visited the club on several occasions and is thought to have some input into the running of the club.

Belichick coached Brady for 19 years and together they won an unparalleled six Super Bowls making the Patriots the most successful franchise in the sport’s history.
